The Murder of Nona Dirksmeyer

Hello, Stacy! I'm so glad you found my message. I had given up checking this website thinking you might not come back to it after reading some of the things written here. I see your last visit was about Christmas time. That was a really hard time for us too. Maybe that is why Nona's mom doesn't talk about it. Sometimes it is just too sad.

I think we should talk about Nona though, especially the happy memories we have... that is one way of keeping her alive in our hearts. Writing down memories is something else I do that sometimes helps. Have you tried writing how you feel or writing a letter to her to tell what you are doing or feeling? Some people might think that is weird, but I don't. We were told it really helps with grief if you keep a journal to write your feelings or thoughts in.

I would like to meet you sometime. I feel that Nona would want those who loved her to care for each other the way that she did. We have planted a peace garden in Nona's memory and you might want to plant a flower for her there this spring. When you find this message, please let me know if you would like to meet, with your mom or grandmom's permission of course, and I'll let you know how to contact me. Please know that you are not alone, though it may feel like it at times. I hope you find this soon and we can talk again. I will never be convinced otherwise that the stepfather did it or had someone do it. Mr. "Nothing good happens after ten o'clock" would be really interesting if he turned out the be the one who molsted her the first time instead of her deceased real father. Would sure be nice to see justice served once in a while.

Re: Growing Cold? I have thought of your family and Nona's family often since then and periodically check blogs to see if there have been any updates. It was strange that I just did a search for updates earlier today and then 48 Hours aired Nona's case again this evening. I am so happy that they have made an arrest and I hope that there will finally be Justice for Nona (and Kevin). My prayers are with your families.

Re: Growing Cold? I believe that she sees you and it makes her so happy to know that you love her still. I hope you see this message just for you and that you know there are lots and lots of people who loved Nona also. We are all hurting still and miss her very much... just like you.
My friend, Margie and I have wondered how you are doing. We are both teachers and loved Nona very much.
Nona and Mrs. Huckabay's daughter were best friends and I am Kevin's mom. Thank you for the kind things you said about Kevin. He loved Nona very much too. Being in court was very scary for all of us. You were very brave to do that. I want you to know that we did everything we could to find the person who did this terrible thing and soon I hope he will be punished the way he should be. I will say a prayer for you every night so that you will feel hope and peace inside. Will you pray for me too? I am still sad a lot of the time too. Nona would want you to not be sad all the time though and try to learn all you can so you can have a great life as you grow up. Oh, Stacey honey, I am so glad I found your message tonight and I am so happy to be able to talk to you. If you visit this website and you want to write back I would love to hear from you. There are a couple of things that puzzle me about the 48 Hours coverage of the Taylor Behl murder (aired October 9, 2007), and I thought you might be able to shed some light on them.

The first puzzle is that they seem to have a sound bite of Erin Crabill saying, in reference to Taylor, “I knew that she was not into his weird, creepy sex.” (The word “his” is unclear. It’s just a “z” sound. At first I interpreted it as “this,” but a simpler interpretation is “his” with the “h” elided, according to Erin Crabill’s regional accent.) The beginning of the sound bite is a voiceover of a picture of Taylor Behl; Erin’s face becomes visible starting with the word “creepy,” and she appears to be wincing as she says these words.

What could Erin Crabill possibly have meant by this? Surely she would not have been inclined to condemn bondage and asphyxia per se as “weird, creepy sex” worthy of a wince. At the very least she must have had friends who would have been insulted to hear her make such a reference. (The kind of sex where one partner dies is certainly weird and creepy, but it would be silly for her to bother pointing out that Taylor wasn’t into that kind of sex.) Moreover, as you have discussed elsewhere in this blog, there is no evidence that Ben Fawley was into kinky sex in the first place. It sounds like Erin’s involvement in the fetish/BDSM scene was pretty well known, so a hard-sell pretense of naïveté seems unlikely, as well as out of character from what I know of Erin.

Could the sound bite have been doctored by 48 Hours? (One can imagine the original, for example, as something like, “I knew that she was not into as[phyxia and bondage and stuff like that. Taylor always thought of that a]s weird, creepy sex.”) I thought CBS had cleaned up its act after the 2004 Bush draft-dodging fiasco that ended Dan Rather’s career, but it’s hard to think of another explanation.

The other puzzle is Ben Fawley’s plea. My understanding is that he pled “no contest” (or whatever the Virginia equivalent is). But on 48 Hours, they seem to have footage of him pleading guilty. Maybe this is just my legal naïveté, but it’s hard for me to imagine that a “no contest” plea would involve answering the question “How do you plead?” with the word “guilty” in open court.

Re: FindTara.com

I do feel that Tara was taken by someone she knew. I think someone posing as a police officer or a police officer went and told her that her ex wanted to see her or that he was in some kind of trouble and asked for her, that way she would go to him. Think about it, she was in love with him, she would have gone to him even though they had ended the love affair, especially if he requested it she would have gone. It is going to come down to someone using him in some way to get to her.

Re: Tara Grinstead… Reward Now Offered

It has been mentioned that Ms. Grinstead had an unknown friend that may have been an officer from a nearby town. Has the database of georgia officicers been checked against the dna found in the glove on her property? I know an officer that has had complaints against him for stalking of a woman that broke off their relationship. He used to be in the GBI and at the time of Ms. Grinstead's disappearance was working as a deputy in a county near hers. His dna should be on file if officer's are made to provide samples. I don't want to name this person because I don't know who is reading this but just in case it helps...the last name is Hill.

Re: Zodiac, John Doe, D.B., Joe…

I just wanted to know: did the police ever catch the Zodiak? His parents also believe, despite cold reality, that he can do no wrong. If that is how they raised their golden boy, they are enabling and in my opinion share in the guilt for "creating a monster." The picture of the epitome of innocence, trust, love and peace - the most nonthreatening of scenes - of a mother cradling her infant in her arms - both asleep - being invaded by the violent penetration of gunshots is such tragic irony. So unfathomable that it qualifies as a "sin that cries to heaven for justice."

So he left them both there dead to decompose and rot in an appallingly undignified manner to be found by strangers. And he would have us believe that this is "loving" behavior. He didn't even attend their funeral, but that too was "loving." "Everything he did, he did out of love for them," per his lawyer. Coming from a man who has built much of his life with Rachel on lies (big ones,) why would he tell the truth now? His credibility is seriously in question. Liars don't discriminate - telling lies is expansive and pervasive.

And typical of the pathological narcissist to shake his head as the verdict was read - shame on all of us - we have done his great personage a grave injustice. I am sure he really believes that, too. Now he can go to prison and instead of having "sex with American ladies" he can...you know what they do in there.

Is there an epidemic of extreme self-centered narcissism and callous disregard for human life lately? Scott Peterson, Drew Peterson, Neil Entwistle, now this scuba-diving groom who probably drowned his wife. Is there a moral problem here? Yes, I dare to raise the question.
